House RulesThe rules
One team a week
Each week you back a single team to win. Not a spread, not a score. Just win.
A team is spent once used
Back the Chiefs in week 3 and they are gone from your bag for the rest of the season, win or lose. The database will not even let you try.
The deadline is the first kickoff
Not the Sunday games, not your own game. The very first kickoff of the football week, usually the Thursday nighter. The clock on the pick page is the truth.
No pick is a loss
Forget to file and you go into the ground exactly the same as if your team had been beaten. Nobody gets a phone call about it.
Ties
A tie counts as a survival. You live, but you have still spent that team.
If everybody loses in the same week
Nobody dies. The week rolls over, all remaining players carry on, and the teams they used stay spent. A pool that wipes itself out in one afternoon is no fun for anyone.
Winning
Last player standing takes the pot. If more than one is still breathing after week 18, you go into a wild and whacky tiebreaker through the playoffs. There can only be one winner. More on that if it comes to it.
Money
$10 a head, paid to the commissioner. You are marked paid by hand once it lands.
